The centuries-old story of the Garden of Eden is captured in this unique gold-plated Alex Monroe necklace. It’s inspired by Adam and Eve, a canvas painted by Flemish artist Jan Gossaert during the 16th-century Northern Renaissance period. The painting shows the moment after both Adam and Eve have tasted an apple from the Tree of Knowledge. When closed, the gold pendant just appears to be an apple… but it opens to reveal the serpent that tempted Eve.

This beautifully-crafted, necklace is typical of Alex Monroe jewellery, the award-winning British designer. The hinged apple locket is supplied with a gold-plated chain, making it ideal as a gift or a special treat for yourself.

Like many pieces of Alex Monroe jewellery, this necklace is influenced by the twin themes of nature and art. Each piece is handmade in his London studio by craftspeople using a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques, which results in a finished article that’s finely detailed. It’s one of the reasons Alex was awarded ‘Designer of the Year’ at the 2008 UK Jewellery Awards.

Our Apple & Serpent necklace is part of a range of Alex Monroe jewellery inspired by details in Jan Gossaert’s art.
