Dr Paul Spencer-Longhurst is Senior Curator at The Barber Institute of Fine Arts, University of Birmingham.

The son of a fisherman, Johan Christian Dahl initially trained as an artisan painter in Bergen before moving on to the Copenhagen Academy where he decided to become a landscape painter.

Moonrise Over Europe explores the career and significance of the Norwegian artist within the Romantic Movement.
