Degas: Waiting Dancer Figurine

This hand-painted dancer figurine, inspired by L'attente (Waiting, 1882) by Edgar Degas, is a lovely adaptation of his pastel painting of a young ballet dancer as she waits for the results of her audition.

In his attempt to catch the action of the moment, Degas's ballet dancers and female nudes are in poses that make no attempt to conceal the subjects' physical exertions. Just the same, in this example, the ballet dancer here is in a moment of rest as she waits. Her stage mother sits beside her in the original pastel painting, aware of her daughter's limited prospects.
