Enjoy afternoon tea with this quirky bone china plate. It’s been designed by Lisa Turner, who’s captured the spirit of the 19th century by transforming anatomical drawings, etchings and photographs into contemporary conversation pieces. The history of these drawings can be traced back over 500 years to Leonardo da Vinci, who frequently combined his artistic talent with a fascination for science.

The bone china plate, which has an 8-inch diameter, is part of Lisa Turner’s Anatomica range of tableware. Other items in the same range include a mocha cup & saucer, a tea cup & saucer and a mug – all of which can be found in the National Gallery shops.

Displaying the illustrated torso of a man wearing nothing but a moustache, our bone china plate blends the accuracy of a medical textbook with a distinctly British sense of humour. It’s a memorable reminder of the time when art and science first met.
