The view is across the Grand Canal towards the 16th-century Palazzo Grimani designed by Sanmicheli. On the right is the Rio di San Luca.

On the grounds of style the work is attributed to a member of Canaletto's studio and is datable to the years after Canaletto made his final return to Venice in 1756.
