This beautiful wooden horse model is a replica of an artist’s antique. When it wasn’t practical to paint from life, this type of horse model would be used. The horse can be posed in a variety of positions, thanks to its fully-articulated joints and adjustable brass supports.
Fully articulated and poseable, this wooden horse brings the anatomical and equine drawings of Leonardo da Vinci to mind. Leonardo studied the anatomy of many animals, often comparing them with humans, although he appeared to have a particular fondness for horses. He even planned a giant sculpture of a horse but this wasn’t completed until almost 500 years after Leonardo’s death.
Our posable wooden horse model is hand-carved from non-endangered hardwood that’s been grown on a plantation. The joints are held together with traditional wooden pins, while the tail has been fashioned from horse-hair. It’s decorated with a distressed French finish and stands on a solid wood base supported by brass rods.
