Quentin Blake: Tell Me A Picture
For the National Gallery exhibition 'Tell Me A Picture', Quentin Blake distinguished illustrator and Children's Laureate, chose an alphabetical anthology of pictures with stories in mind.
Each of the twenty-six pictures was chosen to encourage younger visitors to wonder about what stories it might tell - and so provide ways to help introduce children to the wider world of art.
Some of the paintings may remind us of familiar stories already known, whilst others offer inspiration for the readers to invent their own narratives.
The book contains works from the National Gallery as well as pictures from contemporary children's illustrators and modern artists.
'Tell Me A Picture' vividly demonstrates the richness and quality of children's illustration, and links it to the world of fine art through its infinite capacity to tell stories: a pleasure we all understand.
