André-Hercule de Fleury (1653 - 1743) was tutor to the young King Louis XV. He was made a cardinal in 1726 and became in effect Prime Minister of France. The original version of this work is thought to be a painting at Versailles. Many copies of the portrait were made in Rigaud's studio. Other copies were made later.
