Saint Jerome (about 342 - 420 AD) was a theologian, writer and hermit. He made the first Latin translation of the Bible, known as the Vulgate.

This painting was formerly thought to be an old copy, but since cleaning in 1984-5, it appears to be a work by Guido Reni himself.
